If I Were President

When debating with my liberal friends, there often comes a point where they will tire of me deconstructing their arguments and say, “well what is your plan?” or something along those lines.  At other times, I have found myself talking with political pundits or media-types who may have been guest speakers at a function I was attending and it surprised me how many times they would ask me what I thought should be done about an issue.  What struck me as odd was that this was usually after I asked them the same question because I was genuinely curious about their ideas.  So it got me thinking that maybe they answered my question with a question because they really did not have a whole lot in the way of deep ideas on the subject (these were usually lower-tier pundits or media-types since the restraining order prevents me from speaking to top-tier ones).  Anyway, I digress a bit.  What all of these questions prompted me to do was crystallize my thoughts/opinions on a very wide range of subjects.  In fact, I decided to create my own idea platform as if I was running for office (I doubt I could ever win office since my sarcasm alone would eventually offend 85% of the population before election day ever arrived).  So over the next several weeks, I will begin to articulate my stances on the spectrum of issues affecting this country.  My list of issues is as follows:

Economy

Entitlements

Welfare

Healthcare

Education

Crime & Punishment

Energy & Environment

Abortion

Gun Rights

Immigration

Foreign Policy & Defense

That is plenty to start.  Several of these topics I must admit to having only a rudimentary knowledge so I will simply lay out my desired state and assume that someone much smarter than me would decide to join my team and tell me what details would need to occur to accomplish said outcome.  This will be a living document for awhile, so bear with me if at times it appears more as a stream of consciousness as opposed to a well-thought out policy stance. :)
